Countryside service jobs

We're passionate about maintaining our variety of wonderful Derbyshire countryside sites and facilities, from footpaths to national trails, country parks to small picnic sites, car parks, canals, wetlands, woodlands, visitor centres and even historic buildings and structures.

All are really valued by our community and visitors as important parts of the Derbyshire landscape.

This is an exciting time for the countryside service. As custodians of much of our green estate such as Elvaston Castle Country Park and Shipley Country Park we have a unique role to play in delivering on our Climate Change Strategy, as well as the target to help plant 1 million trees in Derbyshire over the next 10 years.

Using over 40 years of well-established skills and expertise gained from managing 120 plus sites across our beautiful county, we currently have the huge and exciting opportunity to influence how this work will be carried out, shaping our service, sites and facilities for the future.

Our vision

To protect, enhance and promote the network of countryside sites across the county, for people, strong communities, and a healthy and nature-rich environment. Our 3 key areas of focus are:

  • site management and access
  • environment, biodiversity, landscape and heritage
  • engagement and promotion

Our team

We have 3 distinct teams made up of over 80 employees plus our volunteers, each with a love of all things outdoors and a passion for delivering excellent countryside management.

Destination sites team

The destination sites team looks after our 4 principal visitor destinations at Elvaston Castle Country Park, Shipley Country Park, Middleton Top Countryside Centre and High Peak Junction Visitor Centre.

Wider sites team

The wider sites team looks after the remaining sites across the county which include navigable canals, multi-user trails, woodlands, and smaller country parks.

Countryside management team

The countryside management team includes our project officers, tree inspectors and officers responsible for tree safety management, woodland development and new planting, as well as the management of 170 Tree Preservation Orders.

Most of our team are based at locations around the county, either at or near to a countryside site.
