Hard rock sites

The purpose of this consultation stage was to assess hard rock sites that were promoted by operators for working over the Plan period to determine whether they should be allocated in the plan.

In 2015 and 2016 we carried out a consultation on the emerging approach of the plan. This consultation included emerging strategies for the provision of hard rock minerals, that is, limestone, sandstone and gritstone, including whether to opt for the identification (allocation) of specific sites to ensure future supply. It also included a site assessment methodology that would be used to assess hard rock sites for their suitability to be allocated.

Since then we have revised the site assessment methodology, based on comments received and used this to carry out an initial assessment of hard rock sites that have been promoted for working by operators. An additional site has also been promoted by an operator for working building stone at Bent Lane, Darley Dale.

We are now consulting on these elements of the plan. The consultation documents include a revised site assessment methodology, a revised strategy for building stone and initial assessments of the promoted sites.

The sites are an extension to Whitwell Quarry, an extension to Ashwood Dale Quarry, Buxton, an extension to Brassington Moor Quarry, Longcliffe, an extension to Mouselow Quarry, near Glossop and a new quarry for building stone at Bent Lane, Darley Dale (known as Parish Quarry).
