Welcoming and friendly services
Evidence shows that providing easily accessible youth friendly services leads to positive sexual health outcomes for young people.
To promote easy access for young people, services who provide sexual and reproductive health support can follow the national guidance for establishing youth friendly health and care services.
HPV vaccine
HPV is a sexually transmitted virus that can lead to cervical cancer and other health problems.
Young people aged 12 to 13 years (born after 1 September 2006) are offered the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine as part of the NHS vaccination programme. The vaccination is designed to protect against cervical cancer.
From September 2023, most people aged 24 and under who are eligible for the HPV vaccine will only need one dose of the vaccine.
Relationships and sex education
Relationships and sex education (RSE) is all about learning the emotional, social and physical aspects of human development, relationships, sexuality, wellbeing and sexual health.
Evidence shows RSE contributes to improved physical and mental health for children and young people.
'Relationships education' is compulsory in all primary schools in England and 'relationships and sex education' is compulsory in all secondary schools.
In Derbyshire, education settings can take part in an award to develop their RSE called Building Effective Relationships Together (BERT).
RSE Day
Every year in June there is a national Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) Day that we hold across the county.
RSE Day is an annual celebration of the excellent relationships and sex education that educates children and young people about healthy relationships and positive sexual health.
