You'll assist countryside service staff at events and festivals.

Typical tasks include:

  • back-marking for leaders on guided walks in upland and lowland areas
  • erection of marquees and gazebos

Depending on the availability of opportunity and convenience for you, you could be helping with one of our area team guided walks and events or you could be assisting with one of our bigger events. Find out more about our events programme.

Area teams are based at Clay Cross, Tapton Lock, Hayfield, Middleton Top, Shipley Country Park and Elvaston Castle Country Park.

You'll typically volunteer at weekends, but setup days could be in the week. Times vary with the event, but could involve early starts and/or late finishes.

Volunteers are covered by our public liability and personal accident insurances.

We'll ask you to abide by our volunteer agreement, which sets out the standards and support you can expect from us and what we ask of you in return.

Guidance in techniques and safe use of any tools and equipment will be given by our experienced staff.

Personal protective equipment, such as gloves and hard hats, will be provided as required.

You'll need sturdy footwear with good grip such as walking boots.
