Elvaston Castle's Secret Garden

Those of you who have visited Elvaston’s Old English Garden may have noticed a door in a high wall - marked private.

Elvaston Secret Garden

Behind the door and beyond that wall is a space not currently open to the public, except on a few rare occasions.

About half of this area is where Elvaston staff and volunteers grow fruit and vegetables and since 2010 have run a small allotment project.

Every year, with support from a small dedicated team of volunteers, Elvaston grows and harvests a range of vegetables, fruit and flowers and has them available to buy in our information centre and shop.

All proceeds are used to buy seeds, materials and equipment for the following year, ensuring that this project is self-sustaining.

If you would like to get involved growing fruit, vegetables and flowers with like-minded people, we have opportunities for volunteers to support this project on Thursdays. Call the rangers office tel: 01629 533870 for more information.

Weddings

The remaining lawned area of the Secret Garden is now a location for wedding receptions is the ideal location for your marquee. Whether it be a Tipi, a traditional marquee or something more spectacular, the space is perfect for a summer wedding. The adjacent Old English Garden and Elvaston’s Hall of Fair Star (Gothic Hall) were also licenced in 2017 for wedding ceremonies.
