"As we approach Williamthorpe Road, which is known locally as Highfields, you will see 2 5-bar gates that note where the level crossing was to actually cross the roads. Back in the early 70s the railway lines where still actually down in place, I can remember that from being a young lad. It's very hard to imagine looking at it now with the trees and everything else, that you actually had 2 sets of railway lines at this point going across the road. It looks too narrow at the moment. The level crossings itself was a manned crossing because it is a fairly busy and even busier now main road between the 2 villages of north Wingfield and Holmewood."
