"We are standing above the beautiful nature reserve at Teversal Pastures which is owned and managed by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. This reserve is special because it is one of the best places to see wild flowers in the whole of Nottinghamshire. During the summer months the area around you is carpeted with a colourful mix of delicate wild flowers and grasses, a very important and rare habitat. Over the last 50 years we have lost around 98% of our wild flower meadows, here in the UK. Many animals, birds and insects rely on this threatened habitat for their survival.

"If you are visiting in the summer, look out for the wild flowers in bloom, look for the different species, including the white flowered herb meadowsweet, the tall purple and white common spotted orchid and the small untidy looking pink flowers of the ragged robin. As you explore the reserve you will see that some areas are being fenced off. This is to allow the trust's flock of sheep to graze the land each year helping to prevent the meadow from being overtaken by trees and other more dominant vegetation. Teversal Pastures is one of over 70 nature reserves managed by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust across the county. To find out more about the charities other reserves and for more information about the work they are doing to protect our counties wildlife, visit the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust or call them on tel: 0115 988 8242."
