"Where you are standing used to be a railway line and from here there used to be a railway tunnel that went underneath Glapwell and came out at Doe Lea which now continues down as the Stockley trail, which is another trail of ours that goes up towards Bolsover. The railway line itself carried onto Staveley where it linked into the main line, and that was mainly used for the transportation of coal but also at one point it was used for passenger traffic.
"If you go back down the road from the trail you will see evidence at one point of where the station used to be, there are still the copping stones in place there and this was the personal station of the Dukes of Devonshire who actually owned Hardwick Hall at the time.
"From the Rowthorne car park there is a nice circular walk going into Hardwick, the best way of doing this is to follow the purple round signs with the indication arrows for the direction in which you want to travel and that will take you into Hardwick through several nice pieces of woodland. The walk would probably take you about 2 hours to do a circular walk from here to Hardwick Hall and back again. A very nice walk through one of the National Trust's best properties, well I think it is anyway!"
