"From this point we overlook the former Pleasley Colliery site which has now been converted into the Pleasley Colliery Nature Reserve, which consists of large lagoons and country walks, and full of flora and fauna of all different sorts especially bird life. There has been over 150 different species of bird spotted on the Pleasley Colliery site. The most fascinating part about Pleasley Colliery is when it was first created the person who actually turned over the first sod was Florence Nightingale, simply because her father was the lord of the manor. But one of the highlights of the site are the old colliery workings, in the form of the old winding engine house and the chimney that goes with it. This is actually now a scheduled ancient monument."
