"When sat on the bench at Cock Top, if you look directly in front of you, as though you are looking towards the horizon and Crich Stand, you'll notice in the distance there is a track leading up to a house. Which is the last house on Sitwell Grange Lane at Pilsley, that house is actually Sitwell Grange Farm. And if you turn round and look behind you, you might just make out through the trees another house; this is what we called Cock Top Farm.
"Now years and years ago, the farmers during the winter when they'd got not much else to do, would actually signal to each other by the use of gas lamps. They had got a code worked out, whether they wanted to come up for a game of cards or just for a drink, or stuff, and the people from Sitwell Grange farm would the walk through the field, over the railway lines, up the cutting side and stuff to that farm and likewise, Cock Top Farm would go down to Sitwell Grange farm. But yes it was a long time before mobile phones, I should say, wasn't it."
