The new national planning policy requirement has resulted in an extension of the plan period from 2030 to 2038. The councils have re-calculated the amount of sand and gravel that the plan will need to supply over the extended plan period and examined whether the plan will need to identify further resources to meet that additional need.
This examination has involved assessing new sand and gravel sites that have been suggested for working by mineral operators together with sites that were suggested at earlier stages of plan preparation. The plan is proposing 5 sites for sand and gravel working at Swarkestone (north and south), Willington, Elvaston and Foston.
Consultation was undertaken for an 8-week period ending on Sunday 13 December 2020.
The consultation documents can be viewed on our sand and gravel sites consultation page.
