Dates to remember for secondary school admissions

There are some important dates you should remember for making your application for your child's secondary school place.


If your child was born between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014 and is in their final year at primary school you will need to apply for a secondary school place between 9 September 2024 and the closing date of 31 October 2024 for them to start in September 2024.

Information is distributed by primary schools and online.

9 September 2024

You can apply online.

Midnight on 31 October 2024

We must have received your preferences by this date. It does not matter how early you apply as long as you apply by the closing date.

3 March 2025

This is national offer day. If you've applied online we'll email your offer. If you do not have an email address we'll post your offer letter, second class, on this date.

No decisions can be given by phone. All councils nationwide make their offers on the same day.

31 March 2025

Closing date for submitting an appeal in relation to Derbyshire schools if you're not happy with the school allocated to your child.

16 June 2025

Appeals normally heard by this date.

September 2025

Children start school. The school your child has been offered a place at will be in touch with you about the exact date.
