Lea Green support individuals completing level 2 and level 3 outdoor activity instructor apprenticeships.
For some it was a chance to retrain and change careers and for others a continuation of their training to work in the industry.
The apprentices worked with instructors across a range of activities taking on more of a leading role as their experience and skills increased.
They have also had the opportunity on their apprentice day to learn skills such as map reading, kayaking, caving, climbing and paddle boarding.
Hannah says:
"The Lea Green team are all really supportive, from my fellow apprentices to the instructors and other staff I have learnt the job from (and now work alongside), right up to the managers – everybody is helpful, approachable and sees our potential. Throughout lockdown, the job role adapted to be part of an essential service for the care team; this work has inspired me to continue working with children in need and I was grateful to continue in employment when many other outdoor centres had to close. I have been trained in many different activities and although I am still learning the trade and working towards national qualifications, I enjoy continuing my training outside of work."
Sian says:
"I have now completed my apprenticeship and secured a permanent instructing role at Lea Green. I have learnt so much from my apprenticeship and have progressed massively both as an individual and my skills and knowledge for my job role. I am thankful for the opportunity to complete this apprenticeship and would recommend it to anyone wishing to start their career in the outdoors."
