Via Gellia closure

Via Gellia (A5012 Cromford to Grangemill) has been identified as having a high risk from ash trees affected with ash dieback disease falling onto the highway. We've developed a tree felling programme to reduce risks from both council-owned and privately-owned trees.

The A5012 Via Gellia will be closed on a phased basis from Cromford to the junction with the A5015 at Newhaven, from week commencing Monday 27 January to Friday 28 February 2025.

Where the felling operations are taking place, the whole carriageway will be closed to protect the public and our workforce.

Our forestry contractor has been appointed and they are confirming their road closure plan. Once this is agreed we'll let you know and keep you updated.

Throughout this time, sections of the road will be closed completely to traffic on weekdays between 8am and 4pm. Onsite signage will advertise the sections of closures and show access or diversions to local communities as the work progresses along the road. Overnight, one lane will be open, with traffic lights in place.

As well as our contractor, other independent contractors are using the same road closure to complete works to private trees. To do this safely, 2 or more sections may be closed at the same time. By arranging as much of the necessary work now, we hope to prevent many individual closures in the future.

Affected road sections

The three affected Via Gellia road sections are:

  1. Cromford to Clatterway
  2. Clatterway to Rider Point
  3. Rider Point to Grangemill
