Street furniture

Street furniture can include walls, fences, barriers, traffic lights, bollards, signs, street lights and crossings.

Some street furniture such as seats are placed on the highway (pathways and roads) at the request of other public bodies such as parish, borough and district councils.

These are for public use but are owned by the public body who provided them. The owner is also responsible for the maintenance.

The placing of any street furniture within the highway must be approved by us and will usually be covered by a formal agreement. Before granting approval for the placing of street furniture we will inspect the site and complete a consultation procedure.
