The Derbyshire and Derby Road Safety Partnership (DDRSP) is fully committed to reducing motorcycle casualties through education and enforcement activities.
That's why we:
- place roadside signing along routes with higher levels of killed or seriously injured collisions involving motorcyclists
- produce an electronic map of motorcycle incidents and information to support our rural routes roadside signing campaign
- fund and promote Derbyshire BikeSafe
- promote Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Biker Down course
- promote RoSPA's Novice Riders Hub and the National Young Rider Forum's New Rider Hub
- visit schools and colleges to talk to student riders about staying in control on today's busy roads
- promote Shiny Side Up know the dangers, a 3D campaign designed to highlight the most common causes of collisions for motorcyclists
BikeSafe
BikeSafe is a national police-run motorcycle initiative, aimed at working with motorcycle riders in a relaxed environment, to raise awareness of the importance and value of progressing on to accredited post-test training.
Motorcyclists who want to improve their skills and safety on 2 wheels can attend a one-day BikeSafe workshop.
Derbyshire BikeSafe
Derbyshire BikeSafeis delivered by Derbyshire police motorcyclists. It helps fully licenced riders stay safe on the roads by helping them to further develop their skills.
Topics covered include advanced positioning skills, bike control, hazard awareness, observation, cornering, braking, and overtaking.
Shiny Side Up Partnership
Founded and based in the East Midlands, the Shiny Side Up Partnershipis made up of a group of expert professionals from road safety, collision investigation and police traffic management teams.
The focus of their campaign is to reduce the number of fatal and serious casualties suffered by bikers, whether riding for leisure or on commuting journeys.

The focus of the campaign is to reduce the number of fatal and serious casualties suffered by bikers across Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire whether they're riding for leisure or for commuting.
National Young Rider Forum
The National Young Rider Forum is a group of road safety professionals, interested specifically in young motorcyclists. This vulnerable group are aged between 16 and 24 years and are riding powered 2-wheelers of up to 125cc.
The forum website has information on a broad range of subjects from the CBT test, other training, maintenance, security, and insurance. There's also the opportunity for riders to directly ask questions to NYRF experts.
Ridefree eLearning
Before you contact an instructor to book your compulsory basic training (CBT), give yourself the best possible start to your training by completing Ridefree eLearning. Everything you learn in Ridefree will lay a foundation for your CBT, teaching you the skills to become a better, safer rider.
Ridefree is split into 5 modules:
- the Highway Code and hazard perception
- motorcycle clothing equipment and maintenance
- rider behaviour and safety
- risk-increasing factors
- the impact of being involved in a collision
Ridefree is a free eLearning course supported by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency. It's designed to give you the information you need to be a safer rider.
