Road safety for young drivers

Twenty-five percent of all collisions in Derbyshire involve a young car driver aged 17 to 25 years.

We know that a young person's attitude towards driving will shape their behaviour behind the wheel. Giving them information about safer driving techniques and positive attitudes towards driving, before they develop bad driving habits, will lead them to become safer drivers.

We offer courses to young and pre-drivers.

'First Gear' pre-driver training

We run pre-driver training courses for 16-year-olds living or in education in Derbyshire. First Gear gives trainees their first experience behind the wheel of a car in a safe, controlled environment with fully qualified driving instructors.

GoDrive

Thanks to funding from the Derbyshire and Derby Road Safety Partnership we're excited to offer you a unique opportunity to engage pre-learners, learners, and newly qualified drivers in an impactful road safety intervention.

Learning to drive

If you're are thinking about driving lessons, it's important to find the right instructor.

When choosing an driving instructor, make sure:

  • they have a good reputation, or come highly recommended by friends and family
  • they have pink or green badge qualifications
  • you ask any questions that you have thought of - not just their pass rate
  • they're reliable and punctual
  • they have a vehicle that suits your needs
