The analysis in the report forms the basis for road safety professionals to help reduce road deaths and injuries on the Derbyshire network.
Details of our road casualty figures for Derbyshire (excluding Derby City Council area) in 2023 were:
- 28 people were killed
- 369 people were badly hurt
- 1,248 people were slightly hurt
Details of casualties that occurred on roads in the Derbyshire and Derby Road Safety Partnership area in 2023 were:
- 34 people were killed
- 473 people were seriously hurt
- 1,756 people were slightly hurt
Car users make up the largest group of killed or seriously injured casualties. There is a key focus on road safety education, engineering and enforcement in Derbyshire and this links to the 'fatal 4' behaviours:
- speeding
- travelling without a seat belt
- drink or drug driving
- using a mobile phone while driving
The casualty report also identifies road user groups that we need to focus on:
- motorcyclists
- older car drivers aged 60 and over
- adult pedal cyclists
- pedestrians
- young car drivers
- work related casualties
