Braces and orthodontics

Braces are a form of orthodontics treatment. They help straighten teeth, correct your bite and reduce problems from prominent teeth.

Braces and other NHS orthodontic treatments are free for under 18s.

However there is a long waiting list, and you need to show that you can look after your teeth before you can be considered for braces.

It takes more time to brush your teeth with braces. Your dentist will be able to show you how to do this.

You may need some special brushes to help. These are called interdental brushes and single tufted toothbrushes.

You should also try not to have lots of sugary food and drinks.

These can damage the teeth and leave white marks on your teeth after the brace is removed.
