We're investing in our children's social work service

We’re investing in our children’s social work service to recruit additional workers and secure its future.

We remain below the national average for the number of children in care and on child protection plans but want to maintain manageable caseloads and help our social workers deliver good outcomes for children and their families.

We also want to make sure we can manage significant growth in the most complex areas of work.

The council agreed funding in 2017 for a social worker recruitment campaign to expand our teams across Derbyshire.

More funding was approved in 2018 which has allowed us to remodel our service to create smaller teams supported by new practice supervisors and a commitment to sustain reduced, manageable caseloads.

Despite the challenges of the role, morale in Derbyshire is high and our social workers enjoy a diverse range of cases provide an exciting, challenging and rewarding experience.

Our children’s services are currently rated ‘good’ by Ofsted and we have excellent partnership working arrangements that help our social workers deliver good outcomes.

We’re proud of our social work practice and commitment to children and their families in Derbyshire, our excellent supervision, systemic practice, manageable caseloads, innovative working, training opportunities and high aspirations for the children we work with.
