I want to adopt a child

Information and advice on how and why to adopt.

If you're thinking about becoming an adoptive parent then these pages will give you all the information you need to get started.

You have the chance to change the life of a child in care by becoming an adoptive parent.

We're looking for permanent homes for a variety of different children but we're currently particularly looking for homes for children with additional needs and disabilities, older children and sibling groups.

Most of the children who need permanent homes range from toddlers to older children. It's very rare that babies are in need of adoption but the situation is very fluid and may change.

Adoption means making a positive difference to a child’s life and providing a happy, loving and stable home for them to grow and thrive in.

You can adopt:

  • whether you’re married, single or cohabiting
  • whatever your gender, sexuality or religion
  • at any age over 21 – there’s no upper age limit

You can find out about the help, support and training on offer, the types of children looking for homes and all about the actual process of becoming an approved adoptive parent.
