The centre provides day care services to the whole of the Amber Valley area, with vehicles and drivers to transport clients (if assessed as eligible) to and from the centre.
Facilities
The Florence Shipley Centre boasts dementia-friendly design. Prevention and early intervention are at the heart of the community care centre. Stirling University Dementia Unit is a key partner in the building design.
We have a kitchen with qualified cooks who provide a choice of freshly prepared, nutritionally balanced meals that are able to meet individual dietary needs, including specialist speech and language therapists (SALT) recommendations. All catering staff are trained in supporting the nutritional needs of individuals living with a dementia.
Dementia groups
We provide specialist dementia groups from 10am to 3pm. These groups are guided by workers who have a wealth of experience in caring and supporting individuals living with a dementia.
Each group has a co-ordinator responsible for organizing activities, which include orientation sessions, current affairs, and local history, chair-based games and exercises, musical and general knowledge quizzes, crafts, movies, and sing-a-longs.
We offer a person-centred approach to the people who access our service.
All staff receive dementia care training, and we aim to provide a staff ratio of 1 to 4.
We also provide a service for individuals with a physical disability. Activities include current affairs and local news being discussed, alongside physical activities and craft sessions.
