Library system update

We're updating our Library Management System (LMS) from 6 February 2025. This system manages your account details, loan history, and our collection of books, and other resources.

All our users will be affected by this change as there will be about one week of downtime.

The new system will be up and running during the week beginning 11 February 2025 and will be fully in place over the course of a few days.

Services affected during the update

Borrowing and returning books

You'll still be able to borrow and return books during our opening hours.

We'll be using a temporary offline system, so while the updates take place we won't be able to tell you what you have on loan.

Account information

Until the new system goes live, there are a few things our library staff won't be able to do, such as:

  • changing your account details
  • taking payments for lost or damaged items
  • searching the catalogue for stock
  • viewing, placing or modifying reservations
  • receiving new stock.

Joining the library

You can still become a library member by visiting any of our libraries during their opening hours but online registration will be unavailable.

Loan dates

Items borrowed from Monday 13 January 2025 will be issued until Monday 3 March 2025.

From Tuesday 11 February 2025, issues will revert to a 3 week loan period.

Ebooks, e-audio, e-magazines and e-newspapers (Borrowbox, uLibrary, Libby and Pressreader)

If you're already signed in, you'll still have access, but you won't be able to log in to any of our e-resources that need new authentication.

So do sign in and stay signed in ahead of 6 February 2025 to ensure continued access.

Public access PCs

The PC booking software will be in offline mode. If you've used library computers before, you can continue to do so.

New users will need help from library staff.

Stock ordering

We won't be able to order new books for a short time while we set up the new system.

Any items not received from suppliers by 27 January 2025 will be cancelled. We will reorder as soon as possible once the new system is operational.

Please check outstanding reservations with staff following the introduction of the new system.

Reservations

Existing reservations will transfer across into the new system, unless they are for new stock not supplied by 27 January.

Self service kiosks

You can use the kiosks to check books in and out. However, you won't have access to your account details and won't be able to make any payments.

Online catalogue

The current online catalogue will be unavailable. During the update it won't be possible to search for items online. The new catalogue will only go live after the system update is complete.

Our commitment to you

Your data is protected

Your personal data is handled according to all relevant data protection laws.

Purchasing power

We remain part of a purchasing group with other local authorities, so we can continue to offer the best value on new books and resources.
