Interested in volunteering in a community managed library?

If you're interested in volunteering in, but not applying to manage a community managed library, we'd like to hear from you.

Please contact us by email at community.libraries@derbyshire.gov.uk or phone us tel: 01629 533444.

When we're working with an organisation at the library you'd like to volunteer at, we'll let you know how to get in touch with the group and find out more about volunteering with them.

We may also contact you about meetings or events at the library which may be of interest to you. If there isn't a group at this time, we can keep your details securely on file and get back in touch when things progress.

See our privacy notices to find out how we treat your personal data.

If you're interested in opportunities to volunteer at other council-run libraries, see our information on volunteering in a library.

A national picture

There are already over 580 community managed libraries across the country, with more set to follow. Some community managed libraries have increased their opening hours, and many run a wide variety of events throughout the year, extending services beyond those that local authorities have the resources to offer.

They're all different but the one thing that they have in common is the volunteers running them.

Volunteers in other areas have come forward from all walks of life and professions, bringing with them a wide range of skills, and they're from all age groups, including younger people looking to get into employment.

See the attached documents for comments from just a few of them about their experiences of running a local library and what it means to them and their communities.
