Changes to library opening hours

As part of the Libraries for Derbyshire strategy, most of our libraries have seen a change in opening hours. This followed consultation and cabinet approval.

Find your local library's current opening hours.

Future changes

We have recently closed our consultation on the change of opening hours at Borrowash Library. The feedback is being carefully considered, and we'll share that information here when the analysis is completed and a decision has been made.

We 're currently working with groups towards the transfer of the following libraries to community management:

  • Etwall
  • Hayfield
  • Melbourne
  • Old Whittington
  • Tideswell
  • Whaley Bridge
  • Wingerworth
  • Woodville

Community managed libraries may operate different opening hours to those currently in place, but the timetables will be discussed and agreed with the library service prior to transfer.

Libraries currently open 18 hours a week or more they will be open for a minimum of 18 hours after transfer. Libraries currently open less than this will be open for the same number of hours a week as a minimum.

If a library is currently open on any evenings, once it has transferred it must open until at least 6pm at least once a week.

If a library is currently open on a Saturday, once transferred it must open at least 3 hours at the weekend.

We'll keep our library users updated on any planned changes, including on this page.
