Mines and quarries

We have powers under the Mines and Quarries Tips Act 1969 to ensure that disused tips do not, by reason of instability, cause a danger to members of the public.

Operational mines and quarries, including any tips associated with them, are regulated by HM Inspectorate of Mines (part of The Health & Safety Executive) under either The Mines Regulations 2014 or The Quarries Regulations 1999.
