Flood warnings

Flood warnings are issued by the Environment Agency to provide alerts when areas are at risk of flooding.

We closely monitor all flood alerts and flood warnings in relation to our rivers and the communities that could be affected by flooding from them.

We also get severe weather warnings from the Met Office and more detailed extreme rainfall alerts and flood guidance statements from the Flood Forecasting Centre. This is a joint operation between the Environment Agency and Met Office.

The combination of alerts, warnings and forecasts helps us to be better prepared for flood emergencies and to take measures that may be able to make flooding less likely in some areas.
