Employment and education team

We have a statutory duty to find out and make sure young people in the county between the ages of 16 and 18 years are in paid employment, education (school or college), or training (EET). This is a statutory requirement by the Department for Education.


We do this by liaising with schools, colleges and training providers.

For those who are not identified as accessing provision, team members from the family help service contact the young people or their parents directly to establish their whereabouts, provide information, and to signpost them towards potential learning or employment opportunities.

The family help service is not responsible for careers information advice and guidance, nor do they have a caseload of young people. The aim is to maximise the participation of 16 and 17-year-olds in education, employment, or training, and to minimise the number of young people that are not in education, employment, or training (NEET), or those whose whereabouts are unknown.
