Childcare sufficiency assessment

The Childcare Act (2006) states that all local authorities must take reasonable steps to ensure, where reasonably practicable, there is sufficient childcare for working parents, and children eligible for funded early years childcare.

This is set out within the early years and childcare statutory guidance for local authorities.

The sufficiency team monitor the childcare marketplace to ensure there are sufficient places available for Derbyshire children and families.

An annual childcare sufficiency assessment for the whole of Derbyshire is published each year.

This report demonstrates how the local authority is meeting its statutory duty to secure sufficient childcare and looks at the 8 districts in more detail to identify any areas where there may be a deficit in childcare places.

The sufficiency team will support providers to develop provision / offer additional places where demand is identified.

The latest childcare sufficiency assessment is attached to this page.
