Consider doing a GCSE
Most employers look for at least a GCSE grade 4 or C in each subject, so English and maths skills are important. People with good GCSE grades in English and maths earn around £2,000 more than those who do not. For many of us, it's been years since we studied for GCSEs. Others have not had this opportunity for a number of reasons. The thought of doing a GCSE can be daunting, particularly if you have not studied at this level for some time.
If this is you, we can offer a range of ways to help you to prepare for studying a GCSE, including our free Step Up to GCSE courses offered from some locations in June and September.
These short, friendly courses are designed to give you a flavour of what the GCSE level would involve and how you would find the subject. It gives you a taster of the content, whilst you get lots of guidance and help to prepare you for the commitment to embark on the GCSE in September. This opportunity will help enable you to decide if a GCSE course is right for you and look at the standard of work required for gaining a GCSE in 2020.
Ask your local adult community education centre for details of how we can support you to step up to a GCSE in English or maths.
