Botham’s Estate Agents say:
“Bothams Estate Agents have been long established in the town of Chesterfield and as such are more than familiar with the ‘ups and downs’ of the property market. Despite the unpredictability of the property sector, we also appreciate the need to look ahead and plan for the future.
"Looking at the apprenticeship scheme seemed the ideal platform for us to introduce a new member of staff to our residential sales team. As an employer, it offered us a low-risk, cost-effective opportunity to develop a new staff member with the precise industry-specific skills we needed for our business. But equally important to us was to present a young person with a career path into an exciting and rewarding industry.
"Our initial efforts at recruitment via an alternative apprenticeship provider proved frustrating, with a lack of communication and poor pre-selection of candidates. So much so that the whole venture very nearly ended there. However, from our very first contact with Derbyshire County Council’s Adult Community Education Service, we have been very impressed with the responsive, professional and organised service they provide. Carol Howe and tutor Judi Machin have been with us every step of the way and provided help and support to both Bothams and Shani.
"Shani has become a valued and respected member of our team; she has shown continued commitment in her work and studies and it is rewarding to see her grow in knowledge and confidence. We are delighted that Shani will remain with us on a permanent basis after the end of her apprenticeship and we look forward to encouraging and supporting her further studies towards National Association of Estate Agents status.”
After completing her GCSEs, Shani explored apprenticeship options, attracted by the opportunity to gain paid employment while continuing her studies. She successfully completed a year’s apprenticeship and attained an NVQ2 in Retail and Customer Services. This role did not develop into a permanent position. Undeterred, Shani followed her interest in property and gained a further apprenticeship with Bothams Mitchell Slaney Estate Agents as a receptionist in the residential sales department.
Shani has embraced the many challenges that the world of property sales has presented to her: improving her communication, IT and team working skills whilst learning the sometimes complex and often time-pressured process of buying and selling a home.
Shani has now secured a permanent post as sales adviser with Botham’s Residential Sales Team and is looking to continue her studies with the National Association of Estate Agents. Her next goal is to achieve this industry recognised professional qualification.
“The amazing support I have had throughout the apprenticeship from both my DACES tutor and work colleagues has been invaluable in my achieving this qualification.”
