Making choices, step into learning courses
Before starting an English, maths or digital skills course, we ask all learners to attend a 'making choices, step into learning' session.
This session helps us find out your current level and give you the option best suited to you. To book one of the 'making choices' sessions or find out more, ask in one of the centres or email making.choices@daces.derbyshire.gov.uk
English and maths qualifications
We can help you achieve your potential in English and maths, we have the following options available.
Fast track maths or English
An ideal chance to gain a level 1 or level 2 functional skill in one full week. The course runs Monday to Friday for 25 hours over the week.
Functional skills
We also provide longer courses (up to 30 weeks) working towards the functional skills qualification at your own pace, face-to-face in a centre or over Microsoft Teams.
Classes are 2 hours a week, and you complete the qualification assessments in the centre at the end of the course. These courses run from entry level up to level 2.
GCSE
Do you need to get a GCSE qualification? We have GCSE maths (foundation paper) and GCSE English language courses starting every September.
Our courses are either delivered online or face-to-face in one of our centres.
These courses are free for learners who need a GCSE qualification and don't already hold a grade 4/C.
Previous qualifications are not essential, however a level 2 functional skills qualification in the subject may be useful.
Essential digital skills
Our digital skills course develops your digital skills and knowledge, whether you are new to computers or have a bit more confidence.
We can help you increase confidence with computers and achieve a qualification.
All learners are invited to a 'making choices - step into learning' session before starting to find out your level of ability and help you decide on the options available to you.
