Corporate governance

We are responsible for ensuring that our business is conducted in accordance with the law and proper standards, that public money is safeguarded, properly accounted for and used economically, efficiently and effectively.

We also have a duty under the Local Government Act 1999 to make arrangements to secure continuous improvement in the way in which our functions are exercised, having regard to a combination of effectiveness, economy and efficiency.

In doing this we are responsible for putting in place proper arrangements for the governance of our affairs, effective exercise of our functions and arrangements for the management of risk.

We have a code of corporate governance, which is consistent with the CIPFA/SOLACE Framework Delivering Good Governance in Local Government and demonstrates its commitment to corporate governance stating that

“good corporate governance underpins credibility and confidence in our public services”.
