Vital resurfacing work in Ashbourne to take place

Published: 28 August 2019

We're resurfacing 2 sections of the A515 in Ashbourne.

Work will start on a section of Sturston Road, in the middle of the town, from Monday 16 September 2019 for 5 nights. The road will be closed from 6:30pm to midnight to allow the work to take place.

The following week, from Monday 23 September 2019, the A515 will be resurfaced from the roundabout at Station Road to the junction with the leisure centre. This will again take place from 6:30pm to midnight.

Sturston Road was due to be resurfaced last year, but this work was held up to allow a developer to put in services required for a small new housing development. We understand that some services have been installed, with work to install a clean connection taking place on 27 and 28 August 2019, but connections have not been made for sewage or gas.

Our Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Infrastructure, Councillor Simon Spencer, explains:

"We were going to resurface Sturston Road a year ago, but held off as a developer needed time to connect vital utilities for a new housing development.

"Unfortunately we are disappointed that all the services have not been connected by the developer but we cannot wait any longer.

"We've therefore made the difficult decision to go ahead with the resurfacing work, in the knowledge that the road may be dug up by the developer to put in the services needed. We do feel that we have no choice as the road simply won't last another winter."
