Trading standards officers working to protect Derbyshire motorists

Published: 13 November 2023

Spot checks at petrol station pumps across Derbyshire have been carried out by trading standards officers to make sure motorists are getting what they paid for - and the good news is they are.

Our trading standards officers spent 6 months earlier this year carrying out the checks at a number of petrol stations around the county.

Officers tested 147 petrol pumps at eight sites, as part of a cost of living project. They were happy to report that all the pumps tested were found to be correctly delivering fuel within the permitted legal tolerances.

Our Cabinet Member for Health and Communities, Councillor Carol Hart said:

“Our trading standards officers are dedicated to working to keep residents’ hard-earned cash in their pockets. They’re often out and about, protecting consumers and overseeing traders so that legitimate businesses are safeguarded.

“The results of this work on petrol stations is great news for consumers and traders, as Derbyshire residents can have confidence that they’re not being ripped off and traders can be reassured we’ll catch rogue operators.”

Trading standards officers will continue to do this work at times throughout the year.

If anybody has concerns about services they’re receiving from traders they can contact Citizens Advice consumer service or tel: 0808 223 1133.
