Talk Fostering with Derbyshire County Council next week

Published: 11 March 2019

Potential foster carers are invited to find out how they could change a child’s life by dropping into an information evening in Chesterfield or Matlock next week.

We’re holding Talk Fostering events on:

  • Tuesday 19 March at County Hall, Matlock, Derbyshire, DE4 3AG from 5pm to 7pm
  • Thursday 21 March at Proact Football Stadium, Sheffield Road, Chesterfield, S41 8NZ from 5pm to 7pm.

No appointment is needed and expert advice will be available from current and former foster carers, as well as from our fostering team.

Our Cabinet Member for Young People, Councillor Alex Dale, said:

“We’re holding two talk fostering events next week, one in Chesterfield and one in Matlock for people thinking about fostering to find out more.

“There are lots of children in our care that are in need of a home where they can thrive and enjoy their childhood.

“If you have a spare room and could provide a loving, stable home for a Derbyshire child we’d really like to hear from you and hope you can come along to meet our friendly team.”

Foster carers need to be over 21 and can be single, married, straight, gay or transgender, from any ethnic origin, working or not, renting or homeowners.

Fostering placements can be for long or short periods of time and all carers receive weekly fostering payments, benefits such as free swim and leisure passes and additional allowances for carers who develop their skills through our training and support programme.

Councillor Dale added:

“Lots of people are eligible to foster and we’ll provide you with a range of benefits and allowances, full training and dedicated support and placements can be for long or short periods of time.

“We hold Talk Fostering events throughout the year or you can always call or email our fostering team for an informal chat at any time.”
