Free driver training for older Derbyshire motorists

Older motorists in Derbyshire are being invited to take advantage of training sessions aimed at keeping them safer for longer behind the wheel.

Derbyshire County Council is offering free Driving Safer for Longer classroom-based information sessions which offer drivers aged 65 plus the chance to update their driving knowledge.

Places are available on upcoming sessions lasting 90 minutes. They cover:

  • eyesight
  • hearing
  • seatbelts
  • drink driving
  • hazard perception
  • vehicle adaptations
  • driving assessments

Councillor Simon Spencer, Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Infrastructure, said:

“Road safety remains a top priority for us and we are committed to investing in initiatives for all types of road users and age groups. This includes older motorists to help them maintain their independence by keeping them safe on our roads for longer.”

Sessions for 2019 are planned for:

  • Monday 1 April, 10.30am to noon, Chesterfield Fire Station
  • Saturday 27 April, 1.30pm to 3pm, County Hall, Matlock
  • Thursday 9 May, 2pm to 3.30pm, Staveley Fire Station
  • Tuesday 21 May, 1.30pm to 3pm, Glossopdale School
  • Thursday 6 June, 1.30pm to 3pm, Chesterfield Library
  • Tuesday 18 June, 1.30pm to 3pm, Old Hall Hotel, Buxton
  • Saturday 6 July, 10.30am to noon, The Long Eaton School
  • Thursday 11 July, 10.30am to noon, Bolsover Library
  • Tuesday 16 July, 10.30am to noon, Alfreton Leisure Centre
  • Thursday 1 August, 10.30am to noon, The Pingle School, Swadlincote
  • Tuesday 6 August, 10.30am to noon, Staveley Fire Station
  • Monday 23 September, 10.30am to noon, Chesterfield Fire Station
  • Saturday 28 September, 1.30am to 3pm, County Hall, Matlock
  • Monday 28 October, 10.30am to noon, Queen Elizabeth School, Ashbourne
  • Monday 18 November, 10.30am to noon, Bolsover Library.
