The service will be hourly between 9:30am and 5:30pm Monday to Saturday.
These changes are being introduced following requests from residents and councillors after the withdrawal of other bus services in the area last year.
Apart from providing a direct bus service for these areas the improved 14 will also link with the frequent i4 bus route at Sandiacre which passengers can then use to reach the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.
Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways Assets and Transport, Councillor Charlotte Cupit, said:
“I’m sure that residents in Kirk Hallam and Hallam Fields will be pleased to have a bus service reinstated so that they can reach both Ilkeston and Sandiacre.
“And having a direct link to Ilkeston Hospital for residents across the area will be most welcome.”
The money to pay for this service improvement comes from funding provided by developers who have built new housing in the area in recent times.
