What this consultation is about
In accordance with Section 77 of the Schools Standards and Framework Act 1998 (as amended) we're seeking views from the public on the proposed disposal and change of use of former Bennerley School site, including the school playing fields at Bennerley Avenue, Ilkeston, Derbyshire DE7 8PF.
The school playing fields would be used for a residential development for older people (extra care housing) and a replacement council residential care home.
Planning permission for the development was granted on 28 April 2020.

This consultation is in relation to disposal and change of use of Area C of the site as shown on the plan attached to this page. Area C comprises 3 distinct areas:
The blue area (11,546 square metres) is proposed for a change of use to a replacement council care home (for Hazlewood).
The orange area (4,675 square metres) is proposed for disposal for extra care housing, which would share and entrance and facilities with the care home.
The purple area (10,728 square metres) is to be retained as a new improved sports facility for school and community use to be provided as part of the development proposals.
We have already gained consent to dispose of the land within area A formerly occupied by the school buildings, however the blue area on the plan attached to this page will be retained for the replacement care centre.
