What this consultation is about
We've been working alongside the Elvaston Castle and Gardens Trust and the master plan sets out our joint ambitions for the future of the estate.
Since the 1990s the cost of running the estate and maintaining the buildings has become increasingly difficult costing Derbyshire council tax payers up to £900,000 a year.
In 2013, we entered into a partnership with the National Trust to support us in finding new ways of attracting more visitors, increasing income and protecting Elvaston's heritage in the years to come. A 10 year vision for the estate and gardens was developed under the partnership and in 2016 a new charitable trust, called the Elvaston Castle and Gardens Trust, was created.
Our ambition is to hand the running of the estate to the trust as a single management body at an appropriate time.
A comprehensive master plan is needed to guide the future regeneration of the Elvaston Castle estate, and we want to know what you think of it.
We've also produced a set of frequently asked questions, which is attached to this page. We suggest you read these before completing the survey.
If you'd like a paper copy of the questionnaire, please send an email to the address on this page.
