Engaged communities able to influence decisions

We aim to engage with different and diverse communities, to increase the range and age of people taking part in public life.

Key areas of focus

We will be focussing on the following:

  • developing community engagement and co-design
  • increasing people from different backgrounds taking part in public life
  • making robust decisions informed by evidence such as equality impact assessments and community engagement
  • supporting elected members to feel confident engaging with all their communities

Current delivery plan – year 1 activity

By the end of March 2023, we will have:

  • deployed additional resources to increase the pace of our work on equality diversity and inclusion
  • carried out analysis of the 2021 Census results and produced an equality, diversity and inclusion report based on key findings
  • encouraged more people to understand how local democracy works through a range of activity during Local Democracy Week
  • drafted a new corporate strategy and action plan for consultation and engagement which will seek to address gaps in community involvement and engagement
  • developed an online portal for completing and recording equality impact analysis
