Christmas and new year opening

Here's all you need to know about using our services at Christmas and new year.

Call Derbyshire

Call Derbyshire our contact centre, will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day, except for urgent social care calls.

We'll be open as normal for the rest of the Christmas and new year period, telephone: 01629 533190.

Don't forget you can do a great many things through our website any time of day, all year round.

These include:

Emergency contact

Call Derbyshire will take urgent social care calls outside of opening hours. Call Derbyshire also provides an emergency property service in relation to our buildings.

However, in a medical emergency, where a crime is being committed, or there is a fire, you should telephone: 999.

Find details of out-of-hours emergency contacts.

You can also follow us on X and Facebook for updates.

If you're feeling unwell or need medical advice you can visit NHS 111 or telephone: 111 free from any phone to speak to an NHS adviser.

School term dates

You can view the term dates for schools, but some schools have variations to these dates. Parents or carers are advised to contact the relevant school for confirmation of term dates and inset days.

Recycling centres

Our household waste recycling centres are open from 9.30am to 5pm every day (except Waterswallows at Buxton which is 8.30am-6pm) except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Register to use the recycling centres

We’re introducing a ‘residents-only’ registration system to make things fairer and more cost-effective for people living in Derbyshire by helping to reduce the amount of waste being brought to our recycling centres from outside of the county. Please be assured that we won’t be turning away unregistered vehicles immediately. Residents will be reminded of the need to sign-up at their next visit, but to avoid disappointment in future we are encouraging people to register at their earliest convenience.

Please pre-sort your items to help cut waste and prevent things going to landfill.

Kerbside rubbish bin and recycling collections

Please check with your district, borough or Derby City Council for arrangements on bin and recycling collections over Christmas and new year.
