Staveley Seniors Forum was established in the early part of 2005. We hold open forum meetings on the last Thursday of each month at the Staveley Neighbourhood Community Centre.
Achievements
We are pleased to report that Staveley Seniors Forum is still a very well attended group. On average we have 15 to 20 people who regularly come along each month and everyone enjoys getting involved in all the topics and discussions. We have had a variety of speakers attend our meetings and our members have regularly asked some very testing questions!
Many of our officers were involved with discussions regarding the impact that the Staveley Centre would have on the local area. We always try to ensure we are involved with any local projects which will affect the lives of the local 50+ community.
The forum has had a commemorative bench placed in the Staveley Memorial Garden to remember our special friends Peter Stearn and Shirley Flint.
What we're doing
We still get a wide variety of speakers each month on a range of topics. For example, Dr Roger Start, consultant pathologist and lead cancer clinician; Marie Leadbetter, manager of the NGS MacMillan Unit, Chesterfield Royal Hospital; Tina Potter, stroke specialist nurse at the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit, Chesterfield Royal Hospital; Robyn Riggans – Women on the Road to Healing (WORTH) – helping survivors of domestic abuse; Mike Spriggs – Songs from Operettas and Musicals; The Mayor of Chesterfield for 2018/19, Councillor Stuart Brittain and Mayoress Anne Brittain.
The Toenail Care Service is running extremely well with most weeks requiring a waiting list. The service is held weekly on Tuesdays at 1.30pm at Rectory Road Surgery. There is a small charge of £5 per visit.
