EHCPs set out the amount and type of support children and young people with special educational needs and, or disabilities need.
Each one is tailor-made which is why it can take time to reach an agreement between parents or carers, the school and us to get every plan just right for that particular child's unique requirements.
We work directly with parents who may have concerns about their child's specific care plan to resolve any issues and continue to work with parents to try to achieve agreement wherever possible.
Our position reflects the national picture and the challenge many other councils are facing where the number of children with EHCPs has been increasing annually since 2014 but we're committed to working with families to secure the best possible future for all our children.
We're always looking to improve our services which is why we are currently undertaking a SEND review which we've invited every parent to take part in.
Their feedback will help us plan ahead and continue to improve our services to ensure children and young people remain at the heart of everything we do.
