Derbyshire Connect goes Christmas shopping

4 December 2017

A Derbyshire Dales bus service is driving the festive spirit by putting on extra services for a Christmas shopping event.

Our Derbyshire Connect service − which operates in Ashbourne, Wirksworth and their surrounding villages − will run for an extra two hours for passengers wanting to go late night Christmas shopping in Ashbourne.

The service usually runs from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday. But on Friday 8 December 2017, it will operate until 9pm, to allow passengers to pick up presents and enjoy the street entertainment at the town's annual festival.

Councillor Simon Spencer, our cabinet member for highways, transport and infrastructure, said:

"Late night shopping is well-established in Ashbourne's events' calendar. It's a fun event plus a welcome opportunity for businesses to showcase their independent shops and for people to offer a show of support to their local community and economy."

Derbyshire Connect can be used by any kind of passenger, for any type of journey. It's more flexible than a conventional bus service because there is no fixed timetable.

This means pick up times, routes and destinations can be planned to suit the needs of where passengers have stated they want to travel to and from when booking.

Journeys need to be booked at least two hours in advance − preferably earlier − by calling 01335 342951 or emailing bookings@derbyshireconnect.org.uk

Bookings by phone should be made between 8am and 5pm or by 4pm for Saturday travel or 48 hours in advance if making an email reservation.
