Meadow View Care Centre shortlisted for prestigious award

3 April 2017

A £10m specialist community care centre we've developed and help run has been shortlisted for a prestigious national design award.

Meadow View Community Care Centre in Darley Dale has been shortlisted in this year's Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) East Midlands awards.

The annual awards celebrate the best in British architecture and focus on designs that aim to improve or enhance people's lives.

The care home has been shortlisted along with eight other buildings in the East Midlands category.

Set in the Derbyshire Dales, Meadow View Community Care Centre has become a focal point for the local community and has:

  • 16 long-term residential care beds for older people
  • 16 short-term residential care beds to help more people return home or stay at home − including respite care and rehabilitation
  • Day opportunities − including activities aimed at older people to promote health and wellbeing such as chair-based exercises, themed sessions for people with dementia and their carers and further support for carers
  • A health and wellbeing zone offering advice on health, diet, fitness and finance including support with benefits.

Our Strategic Director of Adult Care Joy Hollister said:

"We're very proud of Meadow View and it's excellent news that the care centre has been shortlisted in such specialist awards.

"The architects have done a brilliant job creating a beautiful space so that our residents feel comfortable and safe in their surroundings.

"This is a massive achievement for a local authority-funded project and for a residential care facility. It's testimony to both the skill of the architects and our commitment to providing top quality accommodation that enhances the lives of local people."

Meadow View joins eight other buildings in the shortlist, including a University of Nottingham Library and a GlaxoSmithKline laboratory.

All shortlisted buildings will be assessed by a regional jury with the winners from each region going forward into the national awards.

Meadow View Community Care Centre was developed in partnership with architects Glancy Nicholls and was officially opened in December last year.
