The jetpatchers started in March this year in some hotspots. They work best in reasonably dry and less windy conditions due to the way they operate: spray injecting aggregate bitumen and binder into defects after first cleaning and preparing the pothole area. This is why we don’t hire them in until the start of spring and (in theory!) better weather conditions.
We focus our use of jetpatchers on more rural parts of the county because of the space they need (for both the vehicle and spraying area), the type of final repair they provide and to make them most efficient.
So far, they have been across the county, including in or around Rosliston, Drakelow, Hardwick, Longford, Bretby, Holymoorside, Hope, Buxton, Ladybower, Ashover and Brackenfield.
This is just one of the ways we're repairing our roads alongside pothole repairs and as much resurfacing as possible (both full roads and hotspot sections). But we know there's lots more to do so we continue to have extra repair and resurfacing teams on, and they’re out 7 days a week - a massive thank you to them.”
We’ve been using 2 different types of jetpatchers: one that works from the back of the vehicle and is operated manually by a team, and another that works from the front of the vehicle and is all operated by the driver from the main cab.
